jon and steph’s WEDDING in capernwray Lancashire
This was such a simple and elegant celebration, perfect for Jon & Steph. They got married in the local village hall which holds special family memories for Steph then headed back to her parents’ house for a reception in the garden.
wedding morning preparations
Steph, her sister, Mum and niece had a relaxed morning doing makeup and eating sausage sandwiches. The marquee was ready on the lawn outside.
Jon got ready at home with his best men. The three of them have now completed the set, they’ve all been best man for each other, which is pretty cool.
the wedding ceremony at Borwick & Priest Hutton Village Hall
We loved the simple decorations Steph had added to their ceremony space: olive trees to flank the aisle and a simple white cloth draped as a backdrop for their vows. The proceedings were profound. Full of heart and shaped so carefully by their friends and family. It was really special to witness.
We took a photo of the whole congregation straight after the ceremony, then Jon and Steph served cake to all their guests as an upgraded receiving line. It was a scorcher of a day, so guests found shady spots outside to chat with their cake and drinks. Inside the kids invaded the photo booth and were loving it.
their wedding reception at home
We gave Jon & Steph a lift back to the reception, stopping on the way for photos down by the river. It was gorgeous and extra fun to get congratulations from passing dog walkers.
Jon’s top tips:
Try not to overthink every detail, it can overshadow the day.
Dress appropriately to the weather. I didn’t!
Take time with guests.
Sometimes there has to be a limit on guests, don’t worry how they’ll react. Remember it’s your day.
Most importantly- Eat cake!!
There’s nothing quite like the feeling of an at-home wedding reception. Everyone was happy and relaxed mingling outside. * Their nieces and nephews had made cute signs to help people find what they needed. We had canapes and group photos on the lawn, while kids ran and cartwheeled all around.
Guests lined the entrance to the marquee to throw confetti and move inside for the speeches. There were a few tears and a lot of giggles from some excellent speeches.
After the wedding breakfast, there was loads of time for sitting outside after dark by a firepit and a whiskey in hand, which feels like the perfect way to end this wedding day.
Happy anniversary Jon & Steph- we love you!
“You fitted in seamlessly and you were fantastic with everyone.”
