Aaron and alicia’s WEDDING at Moxhull Hall, Sutton Coldfield
This wedding is a 2 part-er with the theme of ‘too much food’- ‘no one goes hungry!’. So you should probably grab a cup of tea and a biscuit then get comfy to tuck into their story.
Part 1: tea ceremony at Chung ying
The celebrations kicked off a couple of days before the church service with a tea ceremony and feast in Birmingham city centre.
We had a fun portrait session on the street with the graffiti in China Town then went in to greet all the guests. We had a good giggle when Alicia’s Dad brought out the biscuit tin, knowing that very shortly the ten-course dinner was getting started.
Aaron and Alicia took their place kneeling at the front of the room for the tea ceremony and elders took their turn to come and exchange gifts and blessings. Then we got cracking with the real business of the day, the feast! Chung Ying staff bought out course after course of delicious delicacies.
(We even got some to take home in Tupperware)
Part 2: wedding morning preparations at moxhull hall
After a couple of days to rest and digest we gathered back together to make the wedding legal and celebrate with more food.
Alicia had hair and make up team around for the wedding morning. Here’s a fun fact for you: while Jackie was doing hair dresser training Alicia’s granny was her first client, so this family go way back in her salon chair.
Sarah, her bridesmaid, was on hand for getting dressed and a couple of other school friends were around for moral support and hype.
the wedding ceremony at st john’s walmley
The wedding car brought Alicia and her parents to the service, in the gorgeous autumn sunshine might I add.
Alicia’s been part of St John’s for a good long while so it was lovely to see her being greeted by friends as she arrived. Rev Ade got the procession started, followed by Sarah and her partner, and a slightly delayed bride and her Dad… they had an extra pause to wipe away tears before heading down the aisle.
their wedding reception at moxhull hall
It was pouring with rain on the drive back to Moxhull, but rain brings rainbows and we followed a pot of gold all the way down the road.
Inside we snuck off for a few photos with the couple while guests arrived. Then the sun came out in time for family groups down by the fountains in the garden, while guests munched on incredible canapes.
Everyone was seated at one big table for the wedding breakfast. I cannot get over how beautiful the room looked full of candles. Shout out to Alicia for all her DIY skills bringing this look into reality! It was so much fun to be sat at the table together, especially with the kids (who were wonderful and very entertaining). The food was delicious, highly recommend going there for a special occasion if you get the chance. Then it was time for the speeches, just two, short and sweet but not lacking in emotion. Alicia’s Mum spoke first followed by Alicia, it’s a rare treat for us to get an all-female set of wedding speeches!
There was a bit of downtime for guests to check into their rooms or put their feet up before the evening guests started to arrive. Once everyone was at Moxhull the guests lined the way from the hall to the party marquee. Bubble wands (and a couple of bubble bazookas!) is a great way to switch to party mode.
DJ Ed (our favourite!) was ready to get the party started. A&A cut the cake and got on the dancefloor and everyone joined in. We loved seeing their guest of all ages finding their moment on the dancefloor and in the photo booth . Uncle Eddie deserves his own shout out here, best dancer of the night.
There was more food, in case anyone was starting to feel peckish. And photo boothing. And more dancing into the night.
BIG LOVE to you two- thanks for spoiling us. Love Nom x
