Sam & Katie’S WEDDING at Fairlawns Hotel

Their engagement photos

This wedding brought together Sam and Katie’s shared loves of travel and Disney… and even featured some of our photos from their engagement shoot near Birmingham Airport.

Fairlawns is one of our nearest wedding venues so it’s always a treat just popping down the road. The team there are fun and attentive to each wedding couple.

The night before the wedding they buried a sausage, with the hope that it would hold the rain off their wedding…

wedding morning preparations

I loved getting to meet Laura and Maria on hair and make-up. We had such a lovely time getting ready with Katie, her bridesmaid, flower girl and mum. Sam’s Mum and twin sis Laura (his best woman) popped in too. Getting ready all at the hotel made it possible for everyone to spend a bit more time together, and I am all for that!

Sam was with Laura and his two groomsmen (both called Jack!). They got ready in his room before heading down to meet guests arriving for the ceremony.

Katie’s brother played the entrance music for on the guitar. His children were walking down the aisle so it was a real family moment. It was a simple registrar ceremony with two readings. They had their Mums sign the schedule. Then walked back down the aisle as husband and wife.

Outside there was confetti and canapes followed by some group photos in the gardens. We’d planned to take a little wander for some photos around the grounds but the lucky weather sausage didn’t come through for us and the rain came down.

Instead, we headed back into the ceremony room, which had been set up for the wedding meal. I’m so glad we did! I love the relaxed photos we got of Sam and Katie chatting in the armchairs. We did get to go for that wander outside a little later. K&S used photos of their travels as the table names with flowers and flickering candles on all the tables. Guests took their seats and cheered as the new Mr & Mrs entered the room.

Her Dad’s speech had her brother in tears. Then his sister’s speech had everyone laughing -and snacking as she dished out bags of crisps - and confessed to pinning her childhood misdemeans on him.

Over dinner we had a lovely chat with Katie’s grandad who’s photographed a few weddings in his time. We loved hearing his tips and his delight at Katie getting married.

We took a little walk in the gardens then Katie slipped into her dancing Crocs (with just married signs) ready for the first dance and the father-daughter line dance (which is a first for us).

Did you spot their DIY card box, in the style of the mailbox from the movie UP? They had a matching book of adventures as their guest book. How good is their attention to detail? They had a magic mirror in the evening and we loved seeing even their tiniest baby guest getting photos for the guest book.

The dance floor was a lot of fun with glasses and foam glow sticks. The venue staff served up pizza from their pizza oven outside. They have an ice cream bike too, so guests lined up to pick their favourite flavour.

Happy anniversary to you both- love Nom x
