GWÏON & LYDIA'S WEDDING at tanygraig barn, Aberystywth

We’ve known these two going way back, been to weddings together and now it’s their turn.

It was sweet to be in Aberystwyth the day before the wedding and see family arriving for fun and preparations. This wedding was a real team effort. We’re so grateful to those who helped not only Gwïon & Lydia but also fed and hosted us and a scrum of other guests.

wedding morning preparations

On the wedding morning, I headed over to Lydia’s brother’s house, where Lydia and the girls were getting ready. We photographed Phil & Hannah’s wedding too, so it was lovely to catch up with them and see their new place. The bridesmaids had made their own bouquets and were busy doing hair and makeup and snacking on bagels. (I may also have got locked in the loo, thanks for rescuing me quickly ladies!)

Malc was with Gwïon and his family getting ready. There’s a huge number of sweet kids in this family, so that added to the fun. They even made time to get everyone together for some family pictures, which we think turned out adorably. Fun fact: these shots were taken outside the School of Art where Malc and I studied!

Team Gwïon headed over to the Barn to make sure everything was ready. I think it’s fair to say that Team Lydia was a little delayed, but totally worth it! Lydia had made her dress and it was so precious to be with her when she first showed it to her Dad. Then we hopped into cars and hot-footed it down the road for the ceremony.

the wedding ceremony at Tanygraig

The flowergirls looked so cute scattering their petals that the whole congregation was giggling. The bridesmaids were next followed by Lydia and her Dad. We don’t often get brides with their veil covering their faces these days, we loved watching Gwïon lift the veil and grin at Lydia.

Their ceremony was carefully shaped and full of blessings. There were prayers from Gwïon’s Grandad, words from his Dad, and readings and vows led by other church members.

After the service, the bridal party proceeded down the aisle and the newlyweds came back in to cut their cake! There was a big table of cakes and drinks while everyone chatted.

We persuaded everyone to come outside for a confetti tunnel (the fun bit) and a big group photo in the rain (not intentionally, but admittedly the less fun bit). Somehow these two were the perfect couple for a wet wedding day, they were delighted with the misty views over the Welsh countryside and not bothered about getting a little damp. We took some family photos and had a few minutes of photos with just Gwïon & Lydia.

“ Thank you so much 🥰 Misty photos of my dreams. And thank you for everything beyond your amazing photography skills, keeping me calm and being a bow-tying extraordinaire. ”

The wedding breakfast kicked of with the Father of the Bride’s speech then each table took it in turns to collect plates from the buffet. That was one tasty hog roast! Gwïon, his brother and Lydia’s brother made speeches after the meal. There was even a little dance demonstration from the groom.

There was just a little time for some dancing before everyone gathered into a tunnel to say goodbye, then followed them out into the car park to send them off in their decorated ‘Just Married’ car.

What a wonderful day. Happy anniversary and so much love to you two- Nom x
